changes to Micromedex Drug Information mobile app

Do you currently have the Micromedex Drug Information mobile app installed on one or more of your Apple devices? Effective March 31, 2014, the Micromedex Drug Information app (previously free to any Apple device user), will be retired. In its place, you can download the new version of the app, Free Micromedex Drug Reference for Internet Subscribers.

To get started, you’ll first need your password. Follow the simple steps below to find this information:

  • Login to your online subscription to Micromedex 2.0
  • Click on the mobileMicromedex link near the top of the application
  • Write down your password; you’ll need this later (the password is case-sensitive)
  • Then, on your mobile device, visit the iTunes store, search for Free Micromedex Drug Reference for Internet Subscribers, and download the app to your device
  • Launch the app, enter your password, and you are on your way!

It is available now in the iTunes store. It functions exactly the same, and has the same content as, the prior app. More information about the new app is available here.

Lumen catalog search plug-in for Firefox and Internet Explorer

This is a plug-in for your browser’s search box, usually found on your browsers navigation toolbar, and works in Firefox 2.0 and 3.0, as well as Internet Explorer 7. Use the plug-in to perform a keyword search of the Lumen library catalog. Search results will open in a new browser window or tab. Use the drop down menu for the browser search box to specify the search plug-in you want to use. From the drop down menu, use the Manage Search Engines (Firefox 2.0 or 3.0) or Change Search Defaults (IE7) to remove the plug-in if desired.

LibX Regis Library search plug-in for Firefox

LibX is a browser plug-in for Firefox and Internet Explorer that provides direct access to the library’s resources. You can use the plug-in to search in Lumen, Prospector, Google Scholar, or the library’s e-journal portal (search options vary for each).

The plug-in will display below the Address bar in your browser once it is installed. You can search directly from the LibX toolbar or using the right-click context menu. It also places cues in web pages you visit if the library has resources related to that page.
