Lumen access restored

December 30, 2013

Lumen, the Regis Library online catalog, is back online. If you encounter any issues searching in the catalog, please contact the Reference desk at library@regis.edu.

——————————————————-
On the evening of Monday, January 6th, the server for our integrated library system will be moved to a new data center. As a result of this hardware move, Lumen (the Regis Library online catalog) will be unavailable beginning at 11:00 pm MST. Our vendor estimates the system being down for 2 – 4 hours.

Our holdings will be searchable in the Prospector catalog during the downtime, however users will be unable to place holds on Regis items through Prospector. Item status will not update in real time until the move is complete.

We apologize for any inconvenience and will post an update here once services are fully restored.

Perspectives from the Archives: Past and Present Preserved

December 13, 2013

Wondering how to decorate your table this holiday season? What about this?

Taft table decoration

This unusual item is part of the Notarianni Political Collection of presidential campaign memorabilia. Called “a flounce,” this stocking leg was the center piece at President William Howard Taft’s table during his inaugural banquet in 1909. Hmm, you say, a bit sexist. Not a problem in 1909.

It took eleven more years until the 19th Amendment was ratified and women could celebrate an inauguration in which they had voted.

The Archives and Special Collections wishes you joy for your own holiday celebrations.

new exhibit: Chaos & Control

December 2, 2013

Chaos & Control: recent works by Ken Phillips and Steven Long will be on display in the Hartman Gallery of the Dayton Memorial Library from December 5, 2013 – January 24, 2014.

The show, featuring works in a variety of media, marks a first-time collaboration of the longtime friends, who both turned 60 this year. Their work explores the purpose and challenges of creative expression at this landmark decade, asking such questions as what impact do changes in body, brain, energy and shifting worldview have on the production of visual and musical art? Is the outer world more chaotic? And does the inner world have more clarity as we get older?

All are welcome at an opening reception with the artists Thursday, December 5, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

For further information, contact kphillip@regis.edu.
