RU Reading: Performances of Stigma

RU Reading: Performances of Stigma
Wednesday, December 1st
4:00 p.m., DML Fireplace Lounge

Animated selections of prose, scholarship, poetry and dramatic or comedic performance texts exploring difference, marginalization and “otherness” will be presented in the Dayton Memorial Library’s fireplace lounge on Wednesday, December 1st, 2010 starting at 4 p.m. The presentations were developed as part of COM 307/PJ 407, a pilot interdisciplinary class in oral interpretation and acting led by Janna Goodwin (Regis College Department of Communication) with the engaged participation of embedded librarian Martin Garnar. The performing students have chosen and rehearsed literary texts in response to Brenda Allen’s (2003) Difference Matters and Erving Goffman’s Stigma: Notes on the Management of Spoiled Identity (1986). All are welcome to attend. Light refreshments will be served.
